Generic Mobile Version of Brightkite

May 15th, 2008

Yesterday evening we quietly released a generic mobile version of Brightkite. Cheers to Tony for whipping out this alpha version in a couple days. We haven’t yet tested it on every device so if you encounter issues on certain devices, please tell us, and specify the device.

You can find the mobile version of Brightkite at m.brightkite.com

In addition to the mobile version, we have been working away fixing some of the major issues discovered in the past few weeks. Things to look for in the coming weeks: improved mapping functionality, improved friend discovery, improved profiles, refinements to the iPhone app, and fixes to many other little issues such as the login cookie annoyance.

Brady, the login cookie annoyance just isn't me? I really thought it was my iPhone going crazy. Loving the iPhone app, though. It's SUPER quick over EDGE and beats Facebook's by a million – which was before, the landmark webapp. THanks for all the hard work!

You guys are spammers. Thank god the FTC's San Francisco division head lives next door to us. Printed out your anonymous spam and will be giving it to her tonight.

Idea, not sure how possible, but would so rock. Some how gain access to "My location" from google maps mobile and allow it to be posted to bkite. Sorry if this ain't the right location for this kind of post.

Ed, can you tell us what you're referring to as spam? We hate spam as much as the next guy, and if there indeed has been spam, we will take the necessary steps to remedy the issue right away.

The java/symbian applications are in the works. I unfortunately I cannot give an ETA at the moment.

Seems fine so far on the Nokia N95. This is what I've been waiting for to start using Brightkite properly!

I can get the login-screen and fill username and password. When i click the submit-button, I get an error (network error, but this is too general). My phone is a Sony Ericsson P1i
