So…its the end of the month, where is the iPhone app?

August 4th, 2008

The end of the month has come and gone and searching for Brightkite in the iPhone App Store yields no results. So…where is the Brightkite App you are asking? Well, it is delayed, but be assured that we are working day and night to release it to you.

We did say it would be ready at the end of the month, so for retribution while you wait, feel free to throw some tomatoes at us. Thank you for your patience.

Seriously I'm getting a little bummed as well… What's the deal?

That's an interesting idea. I've just been editing the Here I Am message, removing all the URL stuff and adding an @ sign before the lat/long coordinates. It's a bit too much fiddling, but it works.

Rest assured that we're still working on it. We might have something for a few beta testers in the next couple of weeks. When the time comes, we'll announce it on our blog.

Thanks for being patient. I realize that waiting sucks, but we just don't feel comfortable releasing the current version to the world just yet.

Sounds like it won't be out in time for the democratic convention here in Denver. That's a shame – such a large event so close to BrightKite's HQ (and the Denver/Boulder tech community that knows you guys and uses your service) would've been a great opportunity to roll it out. I suppose it's an opportunity even without the native app, but now that people are used to the idea of native apps that grab your loc with a quick confirmation popup, that's what they expect to get.

Just another voice to say that I'm anxiously awaiting the app. (Love to beta test too.)

I really have to agree with Dave on this one. The longer the app takes to get out the more people will find other apps to go to. I also agree that I would rather have a good App then one full of bugs but bugs aren't a bad thing all the time. They tell us what needs fixing or improvement. Nothing is ever prefect the minute it comes out but with BK's App taking so long to even get out of the gate other Services will be putting out there updates before BrightKite even puts out a beta.

I'm trying to figure out why such the delay considering work was started prior to the App Store opening. With the vast amount of other similar applications out, what is the hold up? It just seems a bit difficult to believe it's so technically challenging that you'd rather wait this long. Truth be told, I have cut down on my bkite.com use due to the slow load times for all the unnecessary graphics. Still trying to figure out why there's an icon for Post Note but none for Placemarks.
