Brightkite for iPhone version 1.1 is now in the app store. Download it now!
Brightkite for iPhone v1.1 delivers a number of great updates. Here’s what’s new:
- Ability to sign up through the app
- Larger radius options on Nearby Stream
- Lots of new settings
- Friend discovery via Address Book
- Invite users using email or phone number
- Ability to join users
- View more information on friend requests
- More control over place snapping
- Have the app open from SMS notification URLs
- Simplified “I am” screen
- Check in from place screens
- Lots of bug fixes, performance improvements and tweaks
Better location finding, improved performance and simplified “I Am” screen.
In this release you will notice the “I Am” screen got a small facelift. Due to some place snapping enhancements, we were able to simplify this screen. We’ve also added a somewhat advanced feature to dismiss a guessed location. Simply swipe across the guessed location (as shown below) and Brightkite will display your last checked in place. This becomes useful in large venues such as airports or conference centers in which the guessed location may return a different value. Additionally it can be useful for “lying” and posting at places you’re not.
We hope you enjoy this update. As always let us know if you have any comments or suggestions.

I can't get the Address Book checker thingy to work. It crashes.. I have close to 600 contacts in there... is it too many to check? I've got no problem in loopt =/

I'm wondering if one of my contacts has a funky character or something that is causing it to freak out. Let me know if theres anything I can do to help.

i think BK took the number one complaint of "no one else uses BK" and did a quick fix by automatically setting your "nearby" radius to 100km

Glad you like the addition. Check it out the "Discover and Invite Friends" feature, this will also help with activity/adoption.

One thing about the new update is that you have replaced the "Message" menue option at the bottom of the screen with "Universe". I don't care about the Universe but I liked the ability to mee what messages I have had at a glace at the bottom of the screen. Why the change? Any chance of changing it back to the way it was or making it an option?

I was excited about Brightkite before the iPhone app came out. I've been using the app for nearly three months, and now I'm even more excited about it. It's mostly that the service is excellent.

I need to check the blog more often. I didn't realize this feature was built into the app already. It's the one thing that's been frustrating me most. I was "checking in" regularly even though I was already checked in. Now I don't have to, and it's been that way for a while. I'm glad I found this post.
