Mentions Are Now Replies
Taking a cue from Twitter, we’re updating the Mentions feature and referring to it instead as Replies. When you click the Mentions Replies tab, you’ll see a list of all posts referencing your account with the @username convention only at the beginning of the post. What happens if someone mentions you anywhere else in the post? Sorry, you’re out of luck.

Why the update?
The reply feature was a convention that carried over to Brightkite from Twitter and we decided to embrace and improve on the idea by making them Mentions. Well, frankly, that made things too easy. Having a section where you could see all of your mentions regardless of the @username placement made it far too simple to keep track of conversations, and we certainly can’t have any of that.
So we’re taking a step back and returning mentions to their roots. We think the new replies are going to be a great way of having no idea when someone is talking to you.
This update better reflects how people would have used Brightkite two years ago.
P.S. If this doesn’t make any sense, this may help. ;)
