Brightkite, now big in Japan?

June 10th, 2009

Yasushi Tsugihiro is an avid Brightkite user who also happens to be a television producer in Japan, where Brightkite has become very popular. A show he produces called STYLEBOOK featured the Brightkite iPhone app in their episode on “Location Based Services” which aired on May 30 on the BS Asahi station. Yasushi was kind enough to put together a short video for us with clips from the show (the part on Brightkite starts at about 1:17) and we thought we would share it with you.

There aren’t any subtitles, so we at least think they like us. If there are any Brightkite users out there who can translate, that would be great. Heck, you could even make up something and we wouldn’t know any better. There might even be a t-shirt in it for the person that can make us laugh. ;)

Many thanks to Yasushi from the Brightkite team!

Japan is really awesome… the iPhone is nothing compared to their phones over there.. T_T 8.1 megapixels in a camera phone? They got it covered!

Yes. But to be honest, without iPhone I wouldn't have know about Brightkite. And without the updated Brightkite.app (current version 1.1.1) for iPhone I wouldn't be using Brightkite.

I speak some Japanese… I believe they said something about Brightkite being a most super-excellent iPhone app to help locate where you are when you are lost in a crowded place in Japan, and to see who else is lost there with you, and also to share odd photos, especially of food, of those who are also lost.

I could be wrong though. Instead of "food" that may have said "shoes".

I used to live in Japan, and me and my BKJP friends love brightkite.

We are tighter than any users I have seen else where. GO BK!
