Here I am inside fm_generate_button
First, we wanted to apologize for all of the bugs and slowness everyone has been experiencing. These are big changes and it takes time to work out all the kinks. We have taken Brightkite offline while we work as fast as we can to address the issues you have reported to us. We really can’t thank you enough for your patience during this transition. Bear with us for just a little longer. :)

I'm assuming you know that the android app is also borked, process halted and all that... Particularly when trying to pick a place instead of just the "find me"

What happens to any emailed (from my phone) images I sent in, oh, about 11 hours ago? Are they queued up? Will they appear? Or do I need to resend them when everything is back up?

i know it's free and all, but when you put out a product that people like using, 8-9 HOURS of downtime is bad customer service no matter what the price.

Is it going to be the last time the site is going to be offline, and are we going to get some advance notice the next time that you take the site down? I really can't believe this is the third time in a week that I'm not able to use BrightKite.

Semi off-topic, but will iPhone 2.0 app give me the opportunity to ignore users? There's a spammy person that lives near me that I'd like to shut out.

While we're talking about apps and mobile phones, I'm really hoping to see one for the Pre. I know you guys are busy and all...
I can go onto BK via web browser on the Pre and use all of the happy mobile email and sms updates, but I'd love to see an app to make it solid. There's multiple Twitter and Facebook options for the Pre, but not even one for my BK... If there was one, I'd check and use BK primarily! I'm not just saying that...

What have we invested that gives us the leverage to complain? Our time and our dedication to the service. Being a customer, a user of the service gives more than enough "leverage" to complain.
Just because the service has for now been provided for free makes absolutely no difference.
You can't treat your customers like crap just because they haven't given you any money, that's ridiculous and you can lose customers with an attitude like that.

To be fair, though - this isn't just bugs. This is fundamental oversights in AI and usability, as well as a breach in the trust of your userbase with the privacy setting debacle. The UI overhaul has made the site slower to use - especially on a mobile connection (i.e. low speed, not full broadband) - and removed some of the functionality that made the site fun to use in the first place (track/untrack comment threads, ability to see your friends steam on the mobile site).
Don't get me wrong - I love this site - I'm a Brightkite evangelist and I've taken every opportunity to promote it over the competition. However, the launch of version 2 has just been embarrassing - I can't imagine Flickr launching a new version and making everyone's friends and family photos public, or Facebook having an overhaul and making all of your status and news posts public.
I only hope the loyalty of the userbase is strong enough to overcome the hit to their confidence delivered yesterday.
