Two months ago we stepped through the looking glass with our first foray in Augmented Reality with the Layar app for Android. All you envious iPhone 3GS users can now join your Android friends because the Brightkite Layar is now available for iPhone!

see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php

Here is how you get it:

  • Download the Layar App from the app store (for FREE!)
  • When you launch Layar it takes you to your Favorites screen. To find the Brightkite Layar, tap the Search button in the bottom right.
  • Then do a search for “Brightkite”. You can either tap the search result to go directly to the Brightkite Layar or you can add Brightkite as a favorite by tapping the star in the top right.
  • Then tap the star next to Brightkite, when it turns blue it’s been added to your favorites. And it will show up on your Favorites screen from now on.

As always, we’d love to know what you think – how does Augmented Reality change the way you use Brightkite? How would you improve it if you could?

Here’s what Brightkiters are already saying about the service.

This is unreal! Are you saying I can create this from anywhere I want? I might be wrong about what it actually does, but it looks cool. Is it suppose to be like a personal map? That's what I gathered really. Is there an online coupon that we could use for this? After all black Friday is right around the corner. Give us consumers a good deal why don't you?
