Sharing to Twitter & Facebook gets Granular

In our most recent batch of updates and bug fixes, we made a small change in how you share posts and check-ins with friends outside of Brightkite.

Now, when you post or simply check-in, you’ll see we’ve changed the external sharing button to two buttons so you can choose whether or not you want to share the photo of your lunch to just Twitter, Facebook or both.

This is the new Check-In screen:

And here’s the new Post screen allowing you to include a photo or post a note:

The change is small but allows greater control over what is sent to your friends and family. If you haven’t set up sharing, it’s a piece of cake. Just go to http://brightkite.com/me/connections and click the service you want to setup.

At the moment this change is only implemented on the website, but expect to see it rolled out across other platforms soon

Any chance you're finally going to add support for identi.ca? It's a great community with a twitter-compatible API and has +160000 very active users. The addition has been discussed more than a year ago (/save/_embed/http://assets4.getsatisfaction.com/brightkite/topics/identi_ca_sharing#) and would make brightkite even better!

Would this be why my status updates are now Friends only on defualt. And not shared with everyone? I want my status shared with everyone.

I use the Ping.fm bot in gmail, to update bright-kite which then adds geotagging, to Twitter and the other services I use. I hate it how it gets changed every so often. Is there any fix to just default always share to Twitter and Facebook? I realize there is the option in my Brightkite. But I am sad to say it does not work. I disconnected and renabled the sharing tons of timwes with no effect. Its as if my account might have an issue. Since it always does this every so often. Then I fix it somehow and there it goes again.

Or maybe a way to use older privacy controls. I do like the features but it somehow badly effects me. I do love Brightkite so don't take my criticisms to heart.
