Brightkite in Spring: New features, new applications

What’s not to like about Spring? (with apologies to those of you south of the Equator) . Its warmer, we’re drinking outside, wearing less clothes and generally feeling a little friskier.

Hopefully you’ve noticed a much faster release of Brightkite features in the last few months & we’ve updated a couple of our apps this week, both optimized for the warmer weather:

ANDROID . Android users have often had to wait until after iPhone users for new Brightkite features, but we mixed things up a little by launching our split sharing functionality on Android first. You can now decide post-by-post whether to share to Facebook, Twitter or both. We also solved a bunch of memory issues, which has made photo posting much faster (and less buggy). As usual there are a bunch of smaller fixes and tweaks thrown into the new release also.

IPHONE . Our latest iPhone app also hit the store this week:

Added Group Text, so now you can message all your friends (both Brightkite & your phone contacts), share locations and photos in a group
Remembers your place in a stream when you click back from a post
New splash screen (with a rainbow AND a snail)
Improved message counters (those red circles with the numbers in)
Works on 3.1, so you don’t need to upgrade to 3.1.3
Uses the in-app browser
Clickable links for comments
In the app store now

WHAT NEXT? Expect to see a new Nokia app very shortly, plus some new features to the website and some really cool brand integrations. As always, we love to hear feedback and ideas.
