The Huevos Rancheros at this breakfast spot in New York rocks! You grab your phone, snap a picture and add a note about how the salsa just blew you away. Brightkite users do this every day but now we’re letting you classify your post as a tip. Tips allow you to recommend things at a place to your friends or to the entire world. Tips can include photos and text and are designed to give granular suggestions on what to do (and not to do) at a place.
- Which is the best cocktail?
- Which tables have power outlets?
- When is happy hour?
- Huevos Rancheros or Greek Omelet?
To ensure that good tips rise to the top you can also ‘like’ tips, and we show the most liked one’s first by default. You can browse tips in other ways also – for example you can choose to just see tips left by your friends, or look at the most recent tips.
Photo tips are a new class of content for us (different from a standard post). We’ve changed our back end to support a wide range of new content types – more on that soon.
Photo tips are available today on the iPhone app and on our website. Expect to see them roll out across other platforms in due course.
Here are a few other new features in Brightkite 2.6 for iPhone
- New Post screen (includes split Facebook and Twitter sharing and the ability to mark your post as a tip!)
- Added ability to like a post
- Added ‘like’ count to post stream
- Swipe to delete comments
- Design update for home screen
- Added auto-refresh in place of drag down refresh (for conversations)
- Import names and pictures for your friends imported from your address book (only you ever see these)
- Fixes and improvements to Discover Friends
- Better integration of the in-app browser
You can download Brightkite 2.6 for iPhone immediately via the iTunes App Store.

How do I convert an old photo to a tip? How do I designate that a photo I email in (because I can't run the Brighkite app on my Windows Mobile phone) should be considered as a tip?

well, whatever you did, Firefox users can't sign in anymore! it just keeps looping to the sign-in page, whether trying to connect via facebook, trying to reset password from the reset email, even sign up a new account, just loops and loops, and it has for about 24 hours now! and the support pages say you haven't even looked at the all the help plea discussions yet. You are a closed book and I'm going on a road trip! HELLPP!!!

Hi. Remove your cookies from Firefox and restart the browser. You're seeing this as a result of some security enhancements we recently implemented. Thanks!

These make it very easy to communicate. This app is going to be really huge because there is something called pay per call advertising where people can find a business on there phone and call them. The company is charged for each call that comes in.I figured that this some how can link to that model...
